Inge Ellefson is an upbeat trustee delighted to be representing: Tilley, Rolling Hills, and Alcoma schools. This is her third term as a Trustee and her first as a rural representative for Grasslands Regional School Division.
Born in Denmark, she was fortunate to emigrate to Canada and start her schooling in Tilley for her first 3 years. Learning to speak, read and write in a new language was an interesting challenge.
A move to Brooks for the remainder of her schooling meant that she graduated from Brooks High School, now known as Brooks Junior High School. She has been blessed with the good fortune to attend many post Secondary schools, starting with the Medicine Hat College. Marriage and a BEd followed from the University of Saskatchewan, a Graduate Diploma from the University of Calgary, MEd from the University of Victoria and an EdD from the University of San Diego. Notice the trend towards warmer and more scenic university locations? Support of family and the school division including time and financial resources helped facilitate these academic endeavors which have been very much appreciated. Who wouldn't enjoy getting to know Victoria and San Diego?
Work began as an elementary school teacher in Saskatoon, followed by 27 years as an Elementary School Principal in Brooks. What possessed her to seek an Administrative position, was she in her right mind? Did she regret her choice? She was only 27 years of age. Why did the School Board hire her? As it happened, she never applied for the Principal position, however, she was asked if she would consider taking it. Well, her ready reply was, "YES!"
Community involvement has always been important, and Inge continues to sit on the Recreation, Parks and Culture Board as well as the Brooks Community Adult Learning Council (BCALC) Board which oversees the teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL) to newcomers to Brooks.
Interests include healthy living, with a passion for working out and keeping fit, through yoga, swimming, golfing and biking. A recent move to the farm has allowed her to really indulge her passion for gardening. Never being one to follow convention or back down from a challenge she's retired to the farm, and truly loves the peace and quiet! She also loves animals and has inherited two dogs who now accompany her on her errands. They have several jobs, cleaning up leftovers and taking Inge for a walk twice each day. She also enjoys music and is currently taking piano lessons again. Inge is blessed with a son Lyn who lives and works in Phoenix AZ.
